This was a special photograph of Koudelka's "Occupation" series consisting of the photos of the Czech people's resistance against the occupiers during the Soviet Union's invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968. The wristwatch shows a moment of the Soviet invasion with a deserted street in the distance… it beautifully encompasses time, loss and emptiness and the suffocation of a society. The photographs he took at that time were not published in his country, and his photographs that were smuggled out of the country were featured in the world press with the pseudonym “Unknown Czech Photographer” to avoid the artist from suffering oppression in his country. For many photographers, Koudelka's photos are very special. He interpreted a moment of occupation with this photo he took at a time and place where it should have been crowded. During the pandemic in the world, this photo came to my mind. This time it was not an occupant force that was heard or seen, which caused the streets to be empty. It was the covid-19 occupation that caused it in many countries. What would it look like if there was a similar situation in a big city like Istanbul? Based on this curiosity, I photographed the results of a pandemic occupation with close feelings in the most crowded squares and streets.
