Longing for a homeland is the destiny of the exchanged people.

After the Lausanne Peace Treaty, we call mass forced displacement, and those who have experienced immigration exchange. The people of Görükle, leaving their bright-ceilinged mansions, struggled with poverty in the tobacco fields. The pomegranate tree in the garden, the edge of the stream, the halay in the mansions have always remained in memories. Thessaloniki, the country could never be visited again.

I am also from Görükle. My ancestors came from Thessaloniki and its surroundings and settled in Görükle. The items left over from the immigrants, embroidered caftans, exchange documents, handwritten prayer book, napkins, pockets and rugs are now entrusted to the children of the exchange and their grandchildren.
