I visited Benin twice in 2017 and 2018 for photo purposes. When I went there for the second time, I gave photography lessons at the Benin Yek-Services Photography Academy. During this period, I photographed social life. Ganvie Village, described as the Venice of Africa, was established on the Nokoue Lake near Cotonou. The locals built this village to "protect", who feared the attack of the soldiers of the Fon and Dahomey kingdoms. Since the soldiers did not enter the water for religious reasons, the people could live there in safety. Today, the population of this village has exceeded 20.000. The residents of these floating houses on wooden piles created artificial fields, vineyards and gardens on the lake. The only vehicle used on the lake, which has a depth of up to two meters, is a "boat". There are many places in the village where the necessary needs can be met, including schools, hospitals, markets and post offices.
